So, Trump won.
I'm outraged, I'm ashamed, and I'm terrified. I don't want to live in a country run by a racist, misogynistic, xenophobic bully.
I don't want to live in a country where the man who cries "Rigged!" gets to be President while getting the 2nd most votes.
I don't want to live in a country where a man loses his job at NBC for laughing at offensive comments, but the man who made them gets to be President.
But I do live in that country. And the future is all we can look to. We can look to the 2018 midterms and the 2020 Presidential election. We can work to make sure that whatever damage Trump does, he gets to do it for as short a time as possible.
But what we also have is now. We will have 21 women serving in the 115th Congress. In the history of the United States, only 46 women have been Senators, and 21 of them are right now. With any luck, one of these remarkable women will be the 46th President of the United States.
I plan to write a series of blog entries about each of these 21 women, discussing their diverse backgrounds and beliefs - the ones I agree with politically as well as the ones I don't.
Please join me as we celebrate the women of the United States Senate.
